Engagement Photo Locations in Los Angeles
Los Angeles has no shortage of great spots for engagement photos, which honestly can make choosing one feel a little overwhelming. The good news is there’s something here for every kind of couple. Beachy, architectural, quiet and nature-y, or very LA. These are locations I come back to again and again because they photograph beautifully and actually feel good to be in.
Griffith Observatory
Griffith is iconic for a reason. You get views of the city, the Hollywood Sign, and the surrounding hills all in one place. The architecture is clean and timeless, and the trails nearby give you a more relaxed, natural option too. I almost always recommend sunrise here. The light is better, it’s way less crowded, and the whole experience feels calmer.
Point Dume Beach
Point Dume is one of my favorite beach locations in Malibu. You get cliffs, ocean, and wide open space, so it never feels repetitive. It’s great if you want something that feels a little adventurous but still romantic. Walking along the shoreline or standing up on the cliffs always makes for really strong, natural photos.
El Matador Beach
El Matador is more dramatic and a little more intimate than Point Dume. The rock formations and sea caves give it a very cinematic feel, especially at sunset. It does involve stairs and uneven sand, so it’s not the most low-effort location, but it’s worth it if you love that rugged coastline look.
Greystone Mansion
Greystone Mansion is a great option if you’re drawn to classic architecture and a more refined, timeless look. The grounds are beautiful without feeling overly formal, and there’s a lot of variety in a relatively small area, which makes sessions flow really easily. There is a small permit fee to shoot here, but in my opinion it’s completely worth it for how clean, elegant, and consistently beautiful this location photographs.
Malibu Creek State Park
If you want something quiet and outdoorsy that doesn’t feel like LA at all, Malibu Creek is a great option. Rolling hills, oak trees, and trails that feel really peaceful. This location works especially well if you want your session to feel more like a walk than a photoshoot.
Descanso Gardens
Descanso is lush and romantic without feeling overly formal. There’s so much variety here that we can get completely different looks in one session. Flowers, greenery, water, open paths. It’s a good choice if you like nature but want something a little more manicured.
Pasadena City Hall
Pasadena City Hall has such a timeless look. The arches, staircases, and courtyard photograph beautifully, and the light here is always soft and flattering. It’s a great middle ground if you want something architectural but still warm and classic.
Bluff Cove Lookout, Palos Verdes
This spot is a bit south of LA, but it’s worth the drive if you want dramatic ocean views without the Malibu crowds. The cliffs, coastal views, and quieter atmosphere make it feel really special. It’s especially nice if you want something scenic that still feels relaxed.
Venice Canals
The Venice Canals are one of those places that feel like a hidden pocket of the city. It’s calm, charming, and great for couples who want something low-key and intimate. Lots of walking, lots of natural moments, and a very different vibe from the beach just a few blocks away.
LACMA Urban Light
Urban Light is fun, graphic, and very LA. It works best if you want something modern and iconic, especially in the evening when the lights are on. It’s a shorter stop rather than a full session location, but it’s great for something bold and different.
Final Thoughts
The best engagement location is the one that actually feels like you. Somewhere you’re comfortable, can move around easily, and don’t feel like you’re putting on a performance. I’m always happy to help narrow things down or suggest spots based on the vibe you’re going for. The goal is photos that feel natural and honest, not forced or over-styled.
